At Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness, substance abuse concerns are addressed utilizing a holistic approach to ensure the complex and interconnected needs of our clients are met in order to promote long-term sobriety.
Substance abuse can effect not only the individual but also family and friends. Our Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialists utilize evidence based treatment approaches to assist those clients struggling with substance abuse in achieving sobriety and mending relationships that have been negatively impacted.
Treatment approaches utilized at Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness include strengthening the client’s ability to manage distress, regulate emotions, and develop self-soothing coping skills. Clinician’s will assist clients in exploring their many dimensions such as environment, family and personal history, biological needs, cognitive patterns, affects, and behaviors, in order to reduce and eliminate self-injury.
Self-injury is intentional, self-inflicting, and is performed to reduce and/or communicate psychological distress. Types of self-injury include cutting, scratching, carving, excoriation of wounds, self-hitting, self-burning, banging head, self-inflicted tattoos, and hair pulling. Self-harming behaviors often accompany self-injury such as eating disorders, substance abuse, and risk taking.
Our outpatient approach includes individual, group, and intensive weekly sessions, where client’s are supported in developing a healthy relationship with food and improved self-image. Individual recovery contracts are developed and reinforced throughout treatment with each client. Due to the complex nature of eating disorders, our clinicians follow the standard of care for this diagnosis and work as part of a clinical team for each client. This includes collaboration between our clinicians, a primary care doctor, and a registered dietitian.
Our clinicians at Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness have a strong working relationship with various inpatient and residential eating disorder facilities across the nation. These relationships assist our clinicians in supporting clients throughout various levels of symptom management,which may be found appropriate throughout the course of a client’s treatment.
TRAUMA & POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
Unique and innovative approaches are combined with traditional treatment modalities in order to address every aspect of the mind and body that have been impacted by trauma. Trauma can take many forms over the duration of one’s life such as emotional abuse, neglect, spiritual trauma, sexual abuse, military trauma, natural disasters, and domestic violence, all of which are taken into account when developing an inclusive treatment plan for each individual client.
Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness specializes in the treatment of exposure to trauma and the development of stress disorders such as PTSD. Not all clients exposed to trauma may experience the full spectrum of symptoms related to posttraumatic stress disorder although treatment remains vital to the healing for those who have been exposed to trauma or chronic stress.
A variety of treatment approaches are available and are individualized for each client including but not limited to neurofeedback, relaxation training, sleep hygiene psychoeducation, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). While recognizing sleep difficulties can feel overpowering, our clinicians will partner with clients to develop a treatment plan that focuses on restructuring your sleep patterns and therefore improving your overall quality of life.
Sleep difficulties can be overwhelming for those who are unable to obtain the quality of sleep needed to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Clinicians at Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness work with clients to establish healthy routines to promote and sustain necessary sleep patterns.
CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND FAMILIES
Parents, guardians, and caregivers, should also expect to participate in therapy sessions as needed to ensure optimal treatment effectiveness and maintained progress. Family therapy is also available for families wanting to strengthen the family system and resolve or improve areas of difficulty. Family therapy will consider the needs of all family members and will look at the family system as a whole.
Clinicians at Harbor Behavioral Health & Wellness have extensive experience in working with children and adolescents from all backgrounds. Play, art, and equine assisted psychotherapy, are often utilized to assist younger clients in identifying, processing, and communicating, their thoughts, feelings, and needs.
